Data wiping you can verify
Business machines from Dell, HP and Lenovo are built to run for years in an office. When leases end, thousands of them come back in excellent shape, and that is where refurbished desktops come from.
What to check first
- Look for a data wiping with a current-generation processor.
- Ask about the warranty.
- Compare the price with a new machine.
Hardware diagnostics
A refurbished desktop with a Core i5 or Core i7, 16GB of RAM and an SSD handles email, browsing, video calls and Office work without breaking a sweat, and it does so for a fraction of the price of a new PC.
Cosmetic grading
Look at the processor generation, the amount of RAM, whether the drive is an SSD, and what the warranty covers. Ask the seller how the machine was tested and whether the operating system is a clean, licensed install.
